Returning from the ashes, the Chico Downtown Criterium is back – paving the way towards the complete Chico Stage Race in 2025!
After a four-year hiatus, Northern California’s favorite Downtown Criterium is a delight for racers and spectators alike. This high-speed 6-corner course weaves its way through downtown Chico – challenging riders as they negotiate the pack and duke it out for the win.
Experience – For fans and spectators, the Downtown Chico Criterium is a joyful celebration of all things cycling. It’s the perfect family outing in the jovial atmosphere of Chico’s City Plaza. There is no better time to come out, support local businesses, and enjoy the thrill of bike racing. The event starts at 8:30 am and wraps up at 6:30 pm with the finish of the professional Men’s field.
Race – There is nothing quite like careening around city blocks, fueled by a chorus of thrilled fans and a concoction of adrenalin and nerves. This isn’t your boring business park crit – this is high-energy, full-throttle bike racing. Past iterations have attracted elite races from across the nation to compete on this legendary course. Sign up and challenge yourself to ride harder and faster than ever.
Volunteer – Bicycles and Chico go together like peanut butter and jelly. Support our local cycling community by lending a hand. This event is a massive undertaking and couldn’t be done without the help of an amazing crew of volunteers. It is a great way to get involved and have a fun day at the same time.
Vision – The pandemic changed a lot, but we’re not ready to let this incredible race die. This year’s Downtown Criterium will be the catalyst that allows us to bring back the full Chico Stage Race in earnest. Come out to race and show some love for this iconic event.
